Work to Date:

This Committee has been tirelessly meeting 3 hours each week at the Fire Hall, where they hear and present updates and thoroughly debate each topic before coming to an agreement on what planning guidelines best meet the desires and needs of the Village of Volente.  Outside experts are brought in, as needed to discuss the relevant considerations on specific subjects.   Subcommittees work on key topics and present them to the group the following week to expedite the discussion.

The first task of the Steering Committee was to interpret the results of the Feb 2004 Community Survey and combine those results with the baseline analysis of currently existing conditions in Volente, and the surrounding area, then present those findings in the form of "Goals, Objectives & Strategies" (GOS) to the City Council for acceptance.  These GOS were presented and accepted by the City Council in June 2004.

The Committee was then directed to formulate the design guidelines of the Draft Comprehensive Plan through specific guideline "Plans":   Thoroughfare, Environmental Quality, Parks & Open Space, Community Image, Utilities, and Public Services/Facilities.  They have also been directed to begin drafting Ordinances to support the GOS of the Comprehensive Plan Guidelines, including the Zoning, Subdivision, Water Quality and Signage Ordinances.

Below is the GOS Report presented to Council, and pertinent other information.  Updates will be posted as they become available.  Bear in mind, that none of the above Draft documents become official until public hearings have been held and the City Council has adopted the Plan and Ordinances.  This information is presented to you to keep you apprised of the most current information available.
